Biography

Kim Yuna as a child

Kim Yuna was born on the fifth of November 1990 in South Korea. She lived in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do until she was six, when she moved to Gunpo.
Unlike Canada, South Korea is in desperate need of more ice skating facilities. If Yuna Kim wanted to skate, and on a national level, she had to stay up longer than any of her classmates, often into the morning. Indeed, it got so Yuna Kim would have given up had it not been for several coaches promising her of her talent, and her mother's incredible dedication and dreams.
Also, figure skating lessons were and are still enormously expensive.
Kim Yuna's mother and family had to give up many of their interests to continue supporting Yuna. She did not have proper skates, or the money to change those skates into newer ones.
Yuna Kim had trouble finding sponsors for herself, as South Korea did not reconize figure skating as an important sport at that time, until she won Junior World's Figure Skating.

Kim Yuna, along with her mother and father, has an older sister who is a nurse.
I believe there is a tremendous need to acknowledge Kim Yuna's mother at this point, it would not have been easy for her to spend all that money on sports when in Korea it is important to study well, and for her to drive Kim Yuna to her numerous skating practises.

In 2009, Kim Yuna was admitted as a physical education major to Seoul University, the equivalent to Harvard to the USA in Korea. She received two F's during her first semester, possibly due to her extensive training in Canada and her lack of time. She has decided to take online courses during the rest for the rest of her education at Seoul University. Kim Yuna enjoys karaoking, and of course, figure skating.
